The Kebbi State Government has issued a warning to the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), advising the party to refrain from misleading the public concerning the government’s fertilizer distribution initiatives.
The government has also strongly refuted the ADC’s claims that it had acquired adulterated fertilizer, specifically fertilizer mixed with sand, for distribution to farmers within the state.
This denial was articulated on Thursday by the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Shehu Muazu, during a press conference held in Birnin Kebbi.
Muazu expressed his concern regarding a report disseminated by both traditional and digital media platforms, which asserted that the fertilizer distributed by the government had been compromised.
“I wish to clearly state that, for the 2025 wet season, the Kebbi State Government has not entered into any contracts for the procurement of fertilizer,” he stated.
“Instead, the Governor, in his wisdom, opted to utilize this period to support local industrialists by purchasing directly from local blending facilities.”
The Commissioner noted that three companies were contracted by the state government to supply fertilizer: Maccat Agro Limited, Danmadami Fertilizer Blending Plant, and Contect Agro Global Ltd. Furthermore, Mairiga Company was engaged by local governments for fertilizer procurement.
Muazu underscored that this initiative is designed to foster industrialization and assist local entrepreneurs.
“The ADC’s assertion that the Governor awarded a contract for fertilizer procurement is entirely false, null, and void,” he declared. “This can be verified by anyone; our records are accessible, as are the companies involved.”
He also revealed that the Governor has approved the incorporation of bio-organic fertilizer into the state’s agricultural program.
“As we are all aware, the global trend is shifting towards organic farming and away from chemical fertilizers.
The Ministry suggested this transition to be in accordance with global trends, and the Governor sanctioned the direct acquisition of ten trucks of organic fertilizer from Contect Agro Global Ltd., a prominent Nigerian firm in this sector.
The Commissioner condemned the ADC for what he termed a campaign of misinformation.
“It is regrettable that the ADC opted for unfounded accusations instead of seeking clarification from the Ministry. Our doors are perpetually open,” he stated. “Providing the media with unverified assertions is irresponsible.”
Muazu further remarked, “It is inconceivable for any reputable fertilizer blending company to compromise the integrity of its products, particularly when engaging directly with the government. These fertilizers are accessible for public and media scrutiny.”
To reinforce the government’s position, the Commissioner presented samples of both organic and chemical fertilizers during the briefing, demonstrating the distinct differences between the two.
