The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared a four-day extension for the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
This decision was made following a review of current electoral activities during the Commission’s third quarterly meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), which took place on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
As per a post shared on the Commission’s official X handle on Wednesday, the exercise, originally set to conclude on Wednesday, October 8, will now be extended until Sunday, October 12, 2025.
INEC clarified that the extension aims to accommodate the significant turnout observed throughout the capital and to ensure that eligible residents who have not yet registered are not disenfranchised.
“As of October 7, 2025, a total of 55,346 new voter registrations have been recorded in the FCT, consisting of 38,528 online pre-registrations and 16,818 completed physical registrations,” the statement indicated. “This remarkable turnout highlights the increasing civic awareness among residents and the success of decentralizing the exercise to the grassroots.”
The Commission, however, pointed out that the online pre-registration option in the FCT remains suspended to enable all pre-registrants to finalize their registration in person at designated centers, in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.
INEC further urged all eligible citizens who have not yet registered to take advantage of the extension period, while reminding Nigerians that multiple registrations are a punishable offense under the law.
“Registered voters who wish to transfer their registration to the FCT, or within the FCT, are also encouraged to do so during this period,” the Commission stated.
The list and addresses of all registration centers, it added, can be found on its website and official social media platforms.
INEC expressed gratitude for the collaboration of FCT residents and praised its field officials and stakeholders for their commitment to facilitating a smooth and inclusive registration process.
