Lagos State’s Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, has rejected the African Democratic Congress’s (ADC) claim of manipulating figures in the state’s ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) process, calling it baseless and erroneous.
ADC has accused several governments, including Lagos State, of manipulating the online pre-registration process for the CVR.
Mr. Taiwo Gbadegesin, Head of Voter Education and Publicity at INEC, Lagos State, responded on Monday in Lagos, stated that the speculation remained a figment of the party’s imagination.
The registration numbers for Lagos are in line with previous CVR patterns and accurately depict the demographics of the state, which include a sizable, youthful, and technologically literate populace.
During the most recent CVR (2021–2022), Lagos had the most registrations nationwide.
“The State’s total registered voters rose from 6,570,291 before the exercise to 7,060,195 afterwards. The current figures, therefore, align with this established pattern,” he said.
According to Gbadegesin, the figures also show how well the commission was implemented and how many and ongoing public awareness campaigns the state office conducted.
He claimed that as part of its constitutional responsibility, INEC has been advancing transparency.
