The Inspector General Of Police, Kayode Egbetokun on Friday ordered actions against attackers of the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters, Borno State.
A Thursday assault by Boko Haram terrorists left two police officers dead, and one other officer critically harmed as the terrorists exchanged fire with police working at the station, before they were in the end overwhelmed and repulsed with the assistance of the civilian joint taskforce who are stationed close the police station.
Responding to the occurrence which happened at around 12:10 AM, a Friday statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi, identified the dead two police officers as Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat.
Adejobi said Egbetokun, subsequent to denouncing the demonstration, ordered a prompt and exhaustive crackdown on the culprits, saying that “any cop-killers will not go unpunished.”
The IGP likewise communicated profound sympathies to the families of the deceased officers, attesting that their penance in the line of duty won’t be neglected.
Egbetokun guaranteed the families that the advantages and privileges of the fallen officers would be promptly paid.
The assertion added “The IGP has consequently directed the Zone 15 Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, fdc., to prepare adequate satisfactory resources and personnel, team up with other security agencies to ensure the perpetrators of this loathsome demonstration are found and caused to face the full wrath of the law.
“As investigations proceed, the IGP reaffirms the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to holding accountable those who endanger and disrupt the security arrangement and safety in Nigeria.”
