Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has made his first public appearance following the declaration of a state of emergency in the region and his subsequent suspension from office.
On Sunday, he was spotted arriving for a worship service at the headquarters of Salvation Ministries located in GRA, Port Harcourt.
This appearance occurred just days after President Bola Tinubu announced a state of emergency in Rivers on Tuesday, citing rising political tensions and security issues. This declaration resulted in the suspension of Fubara, his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
In their stead, the President appointed Ibok-Ete Ibas as the Sole Administrator to manage the state’s affairs for an initial six-month term.
The decision has elicited varied responses from political stakeholders, legal experts, and civil society organizations, while the newly appointed Sole Administrator has promptly begun his duties.
Since assuming office, he has undertaken several strategic initiatives, including convening emergency security meetings with law enforcement, traditional leaders, and local government heads, where he confirmed the release of withheld allocations and directed the immediate processing of payments for local government employees.
Additionally, he has inspected the ongoing reconstruction of the State House of Assembly Complex, pledging to ensure its timely completion to promote stability in governance.
Governor Fubara was accompanied to the service by his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie.
