The Federal Government has announced plans to allocate N32 billion in 2025 for special housing initiatives to address Nigeria’s housing deficit, which exceeds 17 million units. This was disclosed in the 2025 executive budget.

The allocated funds will support four major housing programmes, each addressing critical aspects of the housing crisis. These include the Federal Integrated Staff Housing Programme, the Family Home Funds Housing Financing Project, which focuses on student housing, the Renewed Hope Agenda Housing Scheme, and the National Housing Programme. Each initiative is tailored to tackle specific housing needs across the country.

The Federal Integrated Staff Housing Programme has been allocated N90.1 million to continue providing affordable housing for federal workers. This long-standing initiative plays a key role in improving living conditions for civil servants, particularly in urban areas with high accommodation costs.

Additionally, N15.47 billion has been earmarked for the Family Home Funds Housing Financing Project, focusing on affordable student housing. Funded through multilateral and bilateral loans, this project aims to address the housing shortage in Nigeria’s higher education institutions by offering safe and cost-effective accommodation for students nationwide.

Under the government’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” N11.5 billion has been set aside to construct 20,000 housing units aimed at providing affordable homes for low- and middle-income Nigerians. This initiative seeks to address the housing needs in urban and rural areas alike.

Furthermore, the Federal Government’s National Housing Programme, aligned with the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan, will receive N5.34 billion to continue delivering affordable housing across the country.

This initiative seeks to make homeownership more accessible, particularly for urban residents, as part of broader efforts to address the country’s long-standing housing challenges.
