Former Senate President Pius Anyim has joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and implores Nigerians to back the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.
Anyim who is likewise a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) together with politicians at the Pa Oruta Ngele Township Abakaliki, Ebonyi State during the grand finale of the APC local government election campaign.
“We note the colossal socio, political and economic difficulties confronting Nigeria today. It is not therefore a time for political shadowboxing but rather a period for patriots to team up at all levels to back Mr. President as he navigates our country through this challenging time,” he said at the event.
“As need be, the people of Ebonyi have set out to team up with our dear Lead Representative and all federal appointees of Ebonyi, especially the honourable Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, to upscale our backing for President Bola Tinubu.”
“We have set out to use this medium to call on all well-meaning Nigerians to throw their weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to steer the ship of our country to peace and prosperity,” Anyim said.
The former SGF wasn’t the only one who joined the APC. A former Labour Party (LP) gubernatorial candidate for Ebonyi Edwin Nkwegu was among those who cross carpeted to the ruling party.
Anyim filled in as the SGF under the government of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan. He was elected as a senator from Ebonyi in 1999 under the PDP and emerged the senate president in 2000 under the same party.
