Nigerian entrepreneur and political figure, Ayiri Emami, has issued a warning, stating that his supporters will stage a protest at Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo State, where a second-year student named Alex Timileyi was fatally assaulted.
Emami criticized Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Minister of Education Tahir Mamman for their silence and failure to shut down the university in response to the incident.
In a widely circulated video, the All Progressives Congress leader demanded justice for Timileyi, revealing that the deceased hailed from prominent families in the Uvwie and Warri regions of Delta State.
Emami stressed the importance of pursuing the matter diligently and urged Makinde and the education minister to take swift action.
He asserted that he would make his presence known if justice is not promptly delivered, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.
The video, lasting one minute and forty seconds, was shared on social media by #jesuispope.
In a separate incident, Timileyi was brutally attacked by fellow students for allegedly stealing a mobile phone, as previously reported by PUNCH Online. The disturbing video footage depicted Timileyi being severely beaten, pleading for mercy, and enduring hours of abuse.
Following the incident, the university administration expelled the implicated students and handed them over to law enforcement. The tragic event has sparked widespread outrage, with many demanding justice for Timileyi.
The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Timothy Adebayo, assured the public that the institution would ensure accountability. He confirmed that the authorities had identified the main perpetrators responsible for the assault, filming, and shaving of Timileyi’s head. The individuals involved have been turned over to the police for further investigation.
