In preparation for the governorship election scheduled for June 20, 2026, in Ekiti State, Governor Biodun Oyebanji has promptly dissolved the State Executive Council.
In a statement released late Sunday, Habibat Adubiaro, the Secretary to the State Government, announced that all appointees of the governor are included in this dissolution.
According to Adubiaro, the commissioners and special advisers affected by this decision are required to transfer their responsibilities to the permanent secretary or the most senior civil servant within their respective ministries, departments, and agencies.
Adubiaro expressed, “Governor Oyebanji extends his gratitude to the members of the State Executive Council who have been affected and wishes them success in their future endeavors.
“Nevertheless, it is important to note that the dissolution does not extend to the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice. Additionally, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services; Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security; Commissioner for Education; Commissioner for Works; Commissioner for Trade, Investment, Industry and Cooperatives; Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion; and Special Adviser on Lands, Survey and e-GIS are also exempt from this dissolution.
“Furthermore, all Directors General who are part of the State Executive Council will maintain their positions. This includes the Director General of the Office of Transformation and Service Delivery (OTSD); Director General of SDGs and Project Monitoring; and Director General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).”
Oyebanji, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), was sworn in on October 16, 2022, and is aiming to secure re-election in the upcoming election next year.
