Suspected herdsmen on Sunday went after the Amegu Nkalaha Community in the Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, killing an obscure number of people and burning numerous houses.
The Ebonyi State Police Command representative, SP Joshua Ukandu, affirmed the attack, expressing that police have deployed operatives to the area.
While affirming the attack, Ukandu noted that the number of casualties is as yet being explored.
“Yes, an attack occurred and police are responding to the situation. The command is still working to determine the precise number of people killed in the incident,” he said.
The executive of Ishielu local government area, Ifeoma Agwu, likewise affirmed the attack, adding that the method involved with recuperating bodies and taking them to the morgue is ongoing, making it hard to decide the specific number of fatalities at the moment.
“We are taking the casualties’ bodies to the mortuary right now. I cannot talk much on it now. We will give more details later”.
While the motive for the attack stays being scrutinized, some residents recommended that it could be associated with the new killing of cows having a place with herders in the area.
A community member, talking on state of secrecy, claimed that the cows were killed by individuals from the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in the forest.
