The current acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagun, has described the closure of the party’s office by the Federal Capital Territory Authority (FCTA) as an extreme act of irresponsibility.
Damagun made this statement on Monday while speaking to the audience after the adjournment of a significant meeting of the national caucus of the opposition party.
“As you can see, we have postponed our meeting for today until tomorrow (Tuesday) at 10am. We will provide a comprehensive update once we conclude our meeting tomorrow,” Damagun stated.
“I am sure you are also aware that our office in Abuja has been closed. This represents the pinnacle of irresponsibility from this administration.”
The PDP caucus convened at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, in preparation for the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting set for Tuesday.
The gathering occurred in Asokoro following the closure of the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, by the FCTA due to outstanding ground rents.
Damagum presided over Monday’s meeting, accompanied by members of the National Working Committee (NWC). Also present were eight of the party’s ten governors, including those from Bauchi State (the host), Plateau, Osun, Oyo, Enugu, Taraba, Zamfara, and Adamawa.
However, the governors of Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa states were conspicuously absent. Other notable attendees included the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Senator Adolphus Wabara; former Minister of Information, Professor Jerry Gana; former Niger State Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu; former Senate President and chairman of the party’s NEC Reconciliation Committee, Senator Bukola Saraki; and Senator Ben Obi, among others.
