Several commuters and motorists were left stranded on Sunday after heavy rainfall triggered widespread flooding across major roads in Lagos and Ogun states, disrupting movement and worsening traffic in affected areas.
Floodwaters submerged sections of key roads, including parts of Agbado Road and Stella Sholanke in Ajao Estate, where blocked drainage channels worsened the situation. Many residents were forced to wade through flooded streets, while vehicles struggled to navigate waterlogged roads.
Motorists described spending hours in traffic as floodwaters rendered several routes impassable, with many commuters expressing frustration over the recurring flooding that accompanies heavy rainfall in the two neighbouring states. Social media users also shared videos and photos showing submerged roads and stranded vehicles.
The latest incident comes days after the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) warned of an increased risk of flooding in Lagos, Ogun and several other states during the rainy season, urging residents to remain vigilant and avoid flood-prone areas.
