Former President Muhammadu Buhari has communicated happiness with the outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the gubernatorial election in Ondo State, which returned Lead Representative Lucky Aiyedatiwa with a landslide victory.
In his response to the result of the election, the former chief executive in a statement endorsed by Garba Shehu, said the voters had spoken “lucidly and loudly” about the certainty they have in the party and the lead representative, and their desire, communicated through the ballot box, ought to be regarded by other stakeholders.
As per Buhari, the result of the election has proven that democracy remains solid and cannot be easily overturned in a nation as large and diverse as Nigeria.
Buhari said the victory is similarly a test to the governor-elect, to set up policies that engender economic development, checkmate high unemployment and inflation, and advance the quest of welfare programs to make life better for the people.
President Buhari lauded the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and law enforcement agencies for the efforts they put into decreasing observed deficiencies in previous elections.
He then, at that point, wished Lead Representative Aiyedatiwa and his team a successful tenure in office.
The Returning Officer for the election Olayemi Akinwumi, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, Kogi State made public Aiyedatiwa the winner of the election on Sunday, extending the Chief Executive’s stay at the Government House in Alagbaka, Akure.
Aiyedatiwa, the incumbent chief executive of the Sunshine State, polled 366,781 votes to defeat his closest rival and a former deputy governor of the state Ajayi Agboola who flew the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag.
He scored 117,845 votes, more than twice lower than the APC candidate.
