Professor Chukwuma Soludo, the Governor of Anambra State, has expressed his commitment to supporting President Bola Tinubu, along with the backing of his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). He emphasized that prior to his affiliation with APGA, the party had established a policy of endorsing the president and the ruling political party at the national level, a policy that remains unchanged.
This assurance was given to Tinubu during his official visit to Anambra State at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka on Thursday. Soludo recalled that in 2011, before joining APGA in 2013, the party had officially resolved to collaborate with the political party and government in power. He noted that APGA had even adopted the then-sitting president as its presidential candidate that year, reaffirming that the party’s stance has not wavered. The governor highlighted the ideological alignment between APGA and the All Progressives Congress (APC), both of which advocate for progressivism and are cooperating effectively.
He remarked that at this pivotal moment, the central government also embodies progressive values, positioning APGA as a leading progressive party in Nigeria that is strategically aligned with the national government. Soludo called for unity among progressives to further the vision of a progressive and united Nigeria. President Tinubu arrived at the Chinua Achebe International Airport in Umueri at approximately 12:15 pm on Thursday, where he was welcomed by Governor Soludo, his deputy Onyeka Ibezim, and other officials.
During his visit, Tinubu inaugurated Anambra State’s inaugural Government House, marking a significant achievement over three decades after the state’s establishment, along with several other projects initiated by Governor Soludo’s administration. This visit marks the President’s second trip to the South-East this year, following his earlier visit to Enugu State in January.
The traditional leaders, headed by the Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Chidubem Iweka of Obosi, conferred a title upon the President during his official visit to Awka. The title, ‘Dike Si Mba’, which can be interpreted as ‘Hero from another land’, was bestowed upon President Tinubu by the traditional rulers representing the various communities of Anambra State. Accompanying Tinubu in Anambra State were the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, esteemed elder statesman Emeka Anyaoku, and the governors of Enugu, Abia, Ogun, Imo, Borno, Gombe, Delta, among others.
