Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has mourned veteran Nollywood actor Olu Jacobs, describing him as a symbol of excellence in Nigeria’s creative industry.
Obi, in a tribute posted on his X handle on Thursday, said Jacobs made remarkable contributions to the Nigerian film and creative sector during a career that spanned several decades in Britain and Nigeria.
The former Anambra State governor said the late actor demonstrated the importance of talent, discipline, professionalism and dedication to one’s craft.
According to Obi, Jacobs’ death should remind Nigerians of the need to make meaningful contributions to society through whatever responsibilities they are entrusted with.
He said people should ensure that their talents and abilities are used in ways that benefit society.
Obi also expressed condolences to Jacobs’ family, friends, colleagues and members of the Nigerian creative community.
He prayed for the repose of the actor’s soul and strength for those mourning his death.
Jacobs, who died at the age of 84, was one of Nigeria’s most recognised veteran actors, with a career spanning theatre, television and film. His death was announced by his family on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
