The Osun APC Restoration Forum has thrown its weight behind former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, insisting that his defeat in the August 15 governorship election has not diminished his position as a major political leader of the All Progressives Congress in the state.
The forum’s position comes amid growing disagreements within the Osun APC over the factors responsible for the party’s defeat in the governorship election.
While some APC stakeholders have blamed internal divisions and the political influence of Oyetola for the party’s poor performance, the Restoration Forum maintained that the former governor remains an important figure in the party’s structure.
The group reaffirmed its support for Oyetola despite the election outcome, signalling that the former governor continues to command significant loyalty among sections of the party in Osun.
The development highlights the emerging leadership contest within the state chapter of the APC following the party’s defeat to Governor Ademola Adeleke, with different groups offering contrasting assessments of the party’s performance.
An Osun APC stakeholders’ group had earlier accused Oyetola of contributing to the party’s defeat, alleging that his influence over the party structure and political appointments contributed to internal divisions.
The Restoration Forum, however, has maintained a different position, effectively rejecting calls that the election loss should be used as grounds to remove Oyetola from his leadership position within the party.
