A Plateau State security analyst, Gershon Yamba, has criticised the state government’s handling of the persistent killings in the state, saying the worsening security situation raises serious questions about the protection of residents.
Yamba’s comments followed renewed attacks in Plateau State, where violence has continued to claim lives and heighten fears among residents.
The security analyst accused Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s administration of failing to adequately protect communities from recurring attacks, arguing that government efforts have not produced the level of security expected by residents.
His criticism comes amid renewed concerns over insecurity in the state following a recent attack in which at least 25 people were killed, according to local officials and residents.
Yamba said the continued attacks demonstrated the need for authorities to review their security strategy and strengthen measures aimed at preventing attacks rather than responding only after lives and property have been lost.
He also called for stronger intelligence gathering and closer coordination between state authorities, security agencies and affected communities to improve early warning and response mechanisms.
The analyst argued that residents should be able to live and carry out their economic activities without constant fear of attacks, stressing that protecting lives and property remains a fundamental responsibility of government.
Plateau has continued to experience deadly violence linked to longstanding communal tensions and conflicts involving farming and herding communities. Recent attacks have renewed concerns over the effectiveness of existing security measures.
