The Kwara State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to take immediate and decisive steps to secure the release of 176 women and children abducted from Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area, who have remained in captivity for more than 150 days.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the group expressed concern over what it described as the prolonged silence and inaction surrounding the victims’ ordeal, urging the governor not to abandon the affected families.
The NDC noted that while security agencies recently secured the release of abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, similar efforts should be intensified to rescue the Woro victims, who were kidnapped during a deadly attack on their community in February.
According to the group, the continued captivity of the women and children has subjected their families and the entire community to months of trauma, uncertainty and hardship.
The NDC urged the AbdulRazaq administration to work closely with federal security agencies to ensure the victims regain their freedom without further delay.
The group also stressed the need for stronger security measures across vulnerable communities in Kwara North to prevent further attacks by armed groups.
The appeal comes amid growing concerns over the worsening security situation in parts of the state, with reports indicating that hundreds of kidnapping victims are still being held by criminal gangs in different locations.
