The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, has asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led Interim National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.
The suit, filed by Wabara alongside former Niger State Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, Prof. Jerry Gana, Chief Olabode George, and other PDP stakeholders, seeks an order directing INEC to update the party’s leadership records on its official website and accept all communications from the Turaki-led interim leadership.
The plaintiffs argued that INEC’s refusal to recognise the interim NWC despite what they described as subsisting court judgments amounts to a violation of the rule of law. They urged the court to compel the electoral commission to comply with the relevant judicial decisions.
Justice Emeka Nwite adjourned the matter until July 7 for the hearing of all pending applications and the substantive suit. The case is the latest development in the protracted leadership crisis within the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
