The Nasarawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed concern over reports that the collation centre for the Nasarawa North Senatorial by-election may be moved from its originally designated venue ahead of Saturday’s poll.
Addressing journalists in Lafia, the state chairman of the party, Dr. Joel Daniel Gimba, alleged that there were indications the senatorial collation centre could be relocated from the College of Education, Akwanga, to the VIP Hall in Akwanga. He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure transparency throughout the electoral process.
Gimba stressed that the credibility of the election depends on the neutrality and professionalism of institutions responsible for election management and security, urging authorities to guarantee a level playing field for all participating political parties.
Despite the concerns, the PDP chairman appealed to supporters and residents of the senatorial district to remain peaceful and law-abiding, assuring them that the party was fully prepared for the by-election following the conclusion of its campaigns and grassroots mobilization efforts.
The Nasarawa North Senatorial by-election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, June 20, following the vacancy created in the district’s representation at the Senate. Political parties have intensified last-minute campaigns and consultations ahead of the exercise.
