The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an investigation into a self-acclaimed prophet, Godwin Sunday Ajuluchukwucheya, popularly known as Prophet Sunday Koboko, over allegations that he defrauded members of his ministry of N70.39 million through various schemes and promises.
According to the anti-graft agency, operatives of its Enugu Zonal Directorate began investigating the cleric following petitions from church members who accused him of obtaining money under false pretences by offering spiritual solutions, miracle interventions and investment opportunities.
One of the petitioners, Okey Uwakwe, alleged that he paid millions of naira to the suspect for spiritual exercises aimed at resolving family challenges, including helping a relative return to Nigeria and assisting a childless family member to conceive. He further claimed that the cleric persuaded members to invest in ventures linked to an alleged N33 billion lottery win and a proposed rice-processing business.
The EFCC said several other worshippers later came forward with similar complaints, alleging that they were encouraged to purchase items described as spiritual products and contribute funds with promises of prosperity and solutions to personal problems.
The commission disclosed that the total amount allegedly collected from members of the ministry stands at N70.39 million. It added that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the probe.
