With less than a week to the Ekiti State governorship election, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has intensified political activities in the state, throwing her weight behind the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Dr. Oluwole Oluyede, in a move seen as a boost to the opposition party’s campaign efforts.
The Kogi Central lawmaker, who has emerged as one of the prominent voices in Nigeria’s opposition politics, spent several days touring communities across Ekiti State to rally support for the PDP flagbearer ahead of the June 20 governorship poll. According to reports by Punch, Natasha urged voters to back Oluyede, describing him as a grassroots politician with the capacity to address the state’s development challenges.
Addressing party supporters during the PDP’s grand finale campaign in Ado-Ekiti, the senator portrayed Oluyede as a leader committed to inclusive governance, youth empowerment and improved welfare for residents. She argued that the PDP candidate possesses the experience and vision needed to move the state forward.
Natasha also reached out to members of the Ebira community and other residents across various towns, encouraging them to participate actively in the election and support a candidate she said would promote fairness, unity and equal opportunities for all groups.
The senator expressed confidence that Ekiti voters would make informed decisions at the polls, noting that the state’s electorate is politically conscious and capable of assessing candidates based on competence and track records rather than political rhetoric.
Her intervention comes as political parties intensify last-minute campaigns in what is expected to be a keenly contested governorship race. With stakeholders, youth groups and women organisations mobilising supporters across the state, the June 20 election is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched political contests in the country this year.
