Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has conveyed his assurance of achieving success in the governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025, highlighting the substantial grassroots support throughout the state.
Conversely, John Nwosu, the governorship candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has raised concerns regarding the financial contributions made to the governor by various communities. He characterized this situation as profoundly concerning, asserting that such donations violate electoral regulations.
In the meantime, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed the date for the Mock Accreditation Exercise for voters, which will take place in selected polling units across the three senatorial districts of the state.
In light of this development, the police have guaranteed residents that they will ensure maximum security during the exercise and on November 8.
While addressing a campaign rally in Dunukofia Local Council, the visibly pleased governor expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming enthusiasm displayed by the populace, remarking that they have “taken ownership” of his campaign.
“I am thankful to the people of Dunukofia for their unwavering support during my initial election. We achieved a significant victory here in 2021, and I am optimistic about our success once more. I have received assurances that we will triumph in all wards and polling units within this local government,” Soludo proclaimed.
During his visit, Soludo inaugurated the newly built Dunukofia Legislative Building and spoke to local council officials, stressing that the local government system in Anambra is operating effectively.
According to a statement issued by Victoria Eta-Messi, the INEC Director of Voter Education and Publicity, the exercise will enable INEC to test the upgraded Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), including its response and the uploading of results to the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal in preparation for the elections.
The announcement states, “The Commission will carry out a Mock Accreditation Exercise on Saturday, October 25, 2025, in designated polling units throughout the three senatorial districts of the state. This exercise aims to enable INEC to evaluate the upgraded BVAS, examine its response time, and test the process of uploading results on the IReV portal prior to the main election.”
In order to ensure that journalists adhere to the Nigerian media code regarding election coverage and to provide support to the media, which falls under Component 4 of the European Union Support to Democratic Governance programme in Nigeria (EU-SDGN) for the upcoming election on November 8, The International Press Centre (IPC) and the Centre for Media and Society (CEMESO) hosted a two-day media forum focused on ‘Enhanced Reportage, Inclusivity and Accountability of Stakeholders towards Anambra Gubernatorial Polls’ in Awka.
The forum included consultations and discussions with key stakeholders from security agencies, the National Orientation Agency (NOA), media representatives, and facilitators, aimed at providing civic voter education and ensuring the inclusion of women, youth, and persons with disabilities in the electoral process to facilitate a credible election outcome.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Anambra, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, during the event, reassured the public of comprehensive security measures during the elections, as strategies have been implemented in collaboration with other state commands and security agencies to ensure this. He urged relevant organizations to educate the public about the risks of vote-buying and the importance of voting with integrity.
