Dr. Geoffrey Uchechukwu Nnaji, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, continues to insist that he received his degree from the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) in 1985 despite accusations of certificate fabrication.
Speaking to reporters in Abuja, via his special adviser, Dr. Robert Ngwu said the accusation is politically motivated pointing fingers to the state lead representative of Enugu State as the sponsor of the scandal.
He claims that the state lead representative views Nnaji as a threat to his (Mbah’s) second-term governorship ambition. So, the best way to smear him is to drag him through the mud through a certificate scandal.
It is becoming more and more obvious that the entire episode is about political desperation masquerading as scholarly investigation rather than teaching or integrity. The sources, the paid storylines, the timing, and the fabricated documents all suggest a coordinated effort to smear a respectable public worker in the partisan political mud.
But Nigerians are wiser than that. The facts are before the courts, the documents are public, and the truth cannot be buried under political propaganda,” he asserted.
The minister claims that he is committed to his work and mandate of advancing innovation, building Nigeria’s science and technology capacity, and restoring the nation’s confidence in research-driven industrial growth.
Keep in mind that the University of UNN previously rejected the Bachelor of Science degree that Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, had submitted, stating that he had never received a certificate from the school.
In response to an investigative news platform’s Freedom of Information request, the institution issued a formal letter on October 2, 2025, written by Professor Simon Ortuanya, the vice chancellor.
