Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has officially disbanded the expanded State Executive Council (SEC) following his reinstatement after a six-month suspension imposed by President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara indicated that this decision is effective immediately.
The action impacts commissioners, special advisers, and other public officials who are affected by the recent Supreme Court ruling. These officials had been part of Fubara’s administration prior to the declaration of emergency rule on March 18, which resulted in their removal from office.
Political analysts had anticipated that the governor would retain some cabinet members who had performed admirably, while others voiced concerns that the influence of the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in Fubara’s return to power might significantly affect the composition of the governor’s cabinet.
During a valedictory session held yesterday in Port Harcourt, the governor expressed gratitude to the cabinet members for their service and contributions to the state’s development over the past two years. He emphasized the importance of Nigeria’s Independence and urged Nigerians to collaborate with Tinubu in fostering a peaceful, secure, and prosperous nation, as well as a brighter future for everyone.
He reaffirmed his dedication to serving the state with renewed energy, thanking all citizens for their support and extending wishes for a happy Independence anniversary to all Nigerians.
The CPS remarked: “The governor has dismissed all commissioners and other public officials affected by the recent Supreme Court ruling from their positions with immediate effect.”
The immediate past sole administrator of the state, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), upon taking office, had suspended all commissioners, special advisers, and special assistants to Fubara. He also disbanded all boards and suspended the heads of parastatals that were in place in the state.
