Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State reaffirmed on Monday that political stability has been fully restored in the state.
He made this statement during an interview with State House correspondents immediately after his visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Fubara, who was reinstated by the President five days prior after serving a six-month suspension from his position, indicated that the crisis that had affected Rivers has been resolved.
He also mentioned that he now maintains a positive relationship with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
“I am uncertain about what you mean by a paper peace. From my perspective, we have achieved peace. Fubara and his principal are collaborating effectively,” he responded when questioned about the authenticity of the peace.
Fubara expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his efforts in ensuring that Rivers State experiences peace and development.
He stated that his visit to the Villa was to thank the President, whom he referred to as a father, and to inform him of his return.
“You are aware that my suspension was lifted at midnight on September 17, and I returned on the 19th. It is appropriate for me to meet with Mr. President to inform him of my return and to confirm that I have resumed my duties as the Governor of Rivers State.
“It is not a significant matter. It is a father-son conversation, expressing my gratitude and discussing any areas where, if necessary, I might need his guidance to avoid any potential crises. That is all,” Fubara stated.
This marked the governor’s first official visit to the State House since his reinstatement as the governor of Rivers, following a six-month period of emergency rule in the state.
The political conflict also extended to the House of Assembly, causing a division among the lawmakers.
As a result, Fubara, his deputy, and members of the State House of Assembly were suspended from their positions on March 18, 2025, by the President due to the political turmoil in the state.
Tinubu also appointed retired Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as the acting administrator.
However, in June, the President convened with Fubara, Wike, Amaewhule, and additional assembly members, indicating a reconciliation among the principal figures.
On September 17, the President declared the conclusion of the emergency rule effective September 17, 2025.
During a statewide broadcast, Fubara conveyed his gratitude to the President for his intervention in the crisis affecting Rivers State, stating that he would remain “eternally grateful.”
