Senator Natasha’s Struggles Highlight Women’s Senate Challenges – Njai

Fatoumatta Njai, a member of the Pan-African Parliament and a former member of the ECOWAS Parliament, finds it depressing that one out of every four women in the Nigerian Senate is struggling in some way.

In an interview, Njai addressed issues and voiced her complaints.

This comes after Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central was prevented from returning to the Senate after her six-month ban ended.

According to the Veegil Media, Natasha was informed by the Senate on Monday that she could not resume just yet due to her ongoing legal matter.

The former ECOWAS Parliament member responded by saying that Senator Natasha should be allowed to return after completing her six-month suspension even if the matter is under judicial review.

“I know I’m not a Nigerian but I’m an African. I am a Pan-Africanist and also, as a former member of ECOWAS Parliament, I know a little of how Nigerian politics is.

“I know the struggles and the hurdles that women parliamentarians go through to be elected, let alone going to serve and having been denied that opportunity to serve,” she remarked.
