Abdulmumin Jibrin, a member of the House of Representatives, has acknowledged his expulsion from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) while alleging that the party did not provide him with a fair hearing.
The representative for Kiru/Bebeji was removed from the opposition party due to purported anti-party activities and failure to pay dues.
In a statement released shortly after the expulsion, the lawmaker criticized the party for not affording him the opportunity for a fair hearing prior to the decision.
“Although I would have preferred to remain in the NNPP and continue serving our people and country despite some differences (which I will elaborate on in due course to prevent any misunderstandings), the party has made and announced its decision. Consequently, I feel compelled to accept the party’s decision in good faith and without resentment,” the former NNPP leader stated in a release on Saturday evening.
“If not for the respect I hold for the party, its members, and its leaders, I would consider this action to be null and void, as it did not adhere to due process nor originate from a legitimate faction of the party that could be tested in court. I would prefer to wish the party well and depart in peace. I kindly request that the party permit me to leave in peace as well.”
“I respectfully ask the party to send me the invoice, and I will make the payment promptly. I have consistently advocated for harmonious relations in Kano and Nigeria, and I urge the NNPP to maintain decorum without resorting to personal attacks or insults as we part ways,” he expressed.
He attributed the expulsion to his recent interviews but reiterated, “For the sake of clarity, I stand by all the statements I made during those interviews.”
Despite his expulsion, the House of Representatives member asserted that his relationship with the party’s members will remain unchanged.
“I extend a warm welcome to all my supporters who are eager to accompany me on my new journey. However, for those who have opted to stay with NNPP, I harbor no resentment towards them, and I anticipate maintaining a peaceful and harmonious relationship with them at the local, state, and national levels,” stated the Kano lawmaker.
Jibrin revealed that he will “thoroughly consider all the options available to me as I determine my next political affiliation.”
