On Monday, suspected thugs ambushed former Justice Minister Abubakar Malami’s motorcade.
Malami is presently the state’s leader of the African Democratic Congress.
About ten vehicles were wrecked in the attack, according to one of the victims, that numerous of the former minister’s followers were injured to varying degrees.
In response to the incident, Malami said he was not in Birnin Kebbi for political campaigning but rather only to offer his condolences to notable people who had died while he was abroad.
“It’s a painful act clearly linked to politics. Some thugs came out from the APC state headquarters armed with dangerous weapons and stones, attacking and destroying our convoy,” according to Malami.
“The truth is, when it comes to politics in Kebbi State there is no retreat, no surrender.”
Isa Assalafy, the publicity secretary for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State, vehemently denounced the act and denied the party’s role in the attack.
“Kebbi is a peaceful state. No government that enjoys massive support from the people and is confident of victory in 2027 would want the peace of the state to be disrupted,” Assalafy stated.
He also said that Malami’s convoy’s security guards had opened fire during the altercation, which he said made things worse.
