A pro-PDP organization, known as Bala Agents’ Mandate, has urged former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, and former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to reconnect with their political origins in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and collaborate with Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State to establish a robust and unified opposition.
During a press conference held in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, on Monday, the State Coordinator of the group, Amadi Chijioke, recommended that both individuals abandon their intentions of creating a new opposition coalition, emphasizing that such an action would merely undermine the efforts to liberate Nigeria from alleged misgovernance and democratic regression.
“I have a strong conviction in Bala Mohammed’s leadership to guide the PDP towards success. I do not see any necessity in gathering Atiku Abubakar and others to form a new coalition. I believe they should return to their roots — the PDP is their true home.
“Individuals like Peter Obi and Chibuike Amaechi — I anticipate their return to join Bala Mohammed in revitalizing the PDP, as he currently seems to be standing alone within the political landscape,” he stated.
Supporting this appeal, the National Coordinator of the group, Habib Musa, praised the PDP Governors’ Forum, led by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, as the most robust and credible framework currently sustaining the party.
He remarked that the Forum has continued to represent a beacon of unity and accountability amid escalating political uncertainties.
Musa criticized the recent departures of the governors of Delta and Akwa Ibom States to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The exit of two governors from our party has been characterized as a significant setback. However, let us clarify: these departures were not motivated by ideology or principle, but rather by fear and opportunism,” he asserted.
“We assure the citizens of those states that the PDP continues to be a significant force, and we will soon regain control of the governments in those states through the electoral process.”
He criticized the suspension of democratic institutions in Rivers State and the effort to close the PDP national headquarters in Abuja, alleging that the federal government is utilizing state power to suppress opposing voices.
In a direct appeal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, Musa called on him to collaborate with Mohammed and strive for the unity of the PDP, notwithstanding his current position in the APC-led federal government.
As we commemorate 26 years of democracy, Ibrahim highlighted the importance of returning to democratic values and accountable governance.
