Abia North Senator, Orji Uzor Kalu, on Monday, urged the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, to reconcile his political differences with President Bola Tinubu for the benefit of the people in the North-West state.
Kalu, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), cautioned that the residents of Zamfara might miss out on significant development opportunities if the governor does not engage in political economics with the President.
The senator made these remarks during the inauguration of the newly built Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, as well as the renovated Zamfara College of Arts and Science, both located in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara.
Kalu clarified that he was not suggesting the governor abandon his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to join the APC; rather, he emphasized the importance of fostering a positive relationship with the President, who is a key figure in the APC.
Having served as the governor of Abia State from May 1999 to May 2007, Kalu noted that despite being a member of the PDP at that time, he maintained a cordial relationship with Tinubu, who was affiliated with the Alliance for Democracy (AD) back then.
The senator stated, “The president is not only my brother; he is my friend. Many believed our acquaintance began when we were governors, but that is not the case. My children used to reside in his home. Mrs. Tinubu played a significant role in raising those girls, as we lived in Abia while they attended school in Lagos. They stayed at Marina, in the president’s residence.
“Regardless of any political differences I may have had with the President, we have reconciled and are united. I encourage you to resolve your political differences with the President.
“I understand you are with the PDP. I am with the APC. The President is with the APC. Uphold the PDP as a party, but prioritize economic development as a citizen of Zamfara so that Zamfara can progress.
