The Niger State Government has reported that 1,354 individuals were directly impacted by the flood disaster in Mokwa, Niger State.
Murtala Bagana, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, made this announcement during Vice President Kashim Shettima’s visit on Wednesday.
He indicated that 4,534 people had been displaced from their residences, affecting 458 households.
Additionally, 265 structures were either destroyed or significantly damaged, two major roads were impacted, and five essential bridges collapsed, including the crucial Goodwill Bridge along Mokwa-Jaba Road, he stated.
Yahaya Abubakar, the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Traditional Council, praised the Vice President for personally visiting to console the affected individuals.
He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for instructing the prompt release of aid to the impacted communities.
Following the flood that devastated communities in Mokwa on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, over 200 bodies have been recovered.
While the state government has stated that efforts are underway to supply relief materials to the displaced residents, many victims continue to lament the poor conditions of temporary shelters and the lack of sufficient food.
