A former senator who served Kaduna Central in the 8th National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has urged northerners to endorse President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in order to facilitate the completion of an eight-year presidency from the south-west by 2027.
During a press conference held in Kaduna on Monday, the former legislator, who transitioned to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), stated that the north should support Tinubu for the sake of fairness.
“For the sake of fairness, the south, especially the south-west, should be permitted to finish the eight-year presidential term,” the former legislator remarked.
“It would be just and fair; even if the opposition presents a presidential candidate, he should originate from the south-west. This is what fairness and justice require.”
He also criticized previous northern political leaders for their inability to advance the region despite being in power for eleven years.
‘Let us Remember’ South-West Support
“Both the late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and former President Muhammadu Buhari, who hail from Katsina, governed for a total of eleven years. Nevertheless, the region remains underdeveloped,” Senator Sani stated.
“For those of us from the north, we must recognize the progress achieved by this administration. Those who had the chance but failed should apologize to the people of the region instead of inciting unrest.”
He further cautioned against the exploitation of tribal and regional sentiments to undermine the government led by Tinubu.
“Certain northern political figures who did not deliver during their time are now trying to create division out of frustration.
“Northerners must not permit themselves to be manipulated against a government that, in many ways, has surpassed the one that emerged from their own region. Let us remember that the south-west firmly supported the north during Buhari’s administration and did not present any significant opposition to his governance.
