Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has rejected claims circulating on social media that he and four other governors are considering leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join a coalition purportedly being established by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in conjunction with other political figures.
Idris labeled these claims as false, malicious, and a ‘significant jest made by the least entertaining political jesters’. The Governor articulated his stance in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris. In the statement, Governor Idris expressed that he would typically dismiss such unfounded rumors, comparing them to ‘insane individuals performing naked in a public square’.
However, for the sake of clarity, he firmly asserted that he is not a political opportunist. ‘I am created in APC, by APC, and for APC,’ he proclaimed, emphasizing that he would be the last individual to forsake his steadfast and robust party for any coalition, irrespective of its creators.
The statement further highlighted that Governor Nasir is a leader cherished by the citizens of Kebbi State, who themselves are overwhelmingly devoted to the APC. ‘He cannot and will not forsake his constituents to align with political outsiders,’ the statement concluded.
The governor urged the public to dismiss the malicious report, reaffirming his commitment to enhancing Kebbi State and building upon the achievements realized under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
