In anticipation of the 2027 general elections, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has announced that a strong coalition is being formed to unseat President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Atiku, who was the presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023, made this declaration on Wednesday during a meeting with a delegation of National Opinion Leaders who visited him in Abuja.
He remarked, “A coalition of leaders from the APC, PDP, Labour, and other parties has united to pursue a new direction—a new pathway towards a revitalized Nigeria.”
The former presidential candidate emphasized that the coalition’s objective extends beyond merely achieving electoral success; it aims to ensure effective governance for all Nigerians. He likened the coalition to a rapidly moving train, making “multiple stops to include Nigerians from diverse backgrounds” in the quest for improved governance.
“Any means that will lead us to good governance for the future of our children and grandchildren is the path we will choose,” Atiku asserted.
On the previous day, he met with representatives from two groups, during which he provided an update on the status of the pan-Nigerian coalition he is developing alongside other leaders and stakeholders from various political backgrounds and regions. His remarks come in response to the claims made by governors elected under the PDP banner, asserting that the party is the desirable partner in any potential alliances, rather than seeking out others for mergers.
