The Nigerian Red Chamber is set to commence a two-day formal hearing on tax reform bills starting on Monday, as part of endeavours to redesign the nation’s tax system and advance income generation.
The hearing coordinated by the Senate Committee on Finance will involve consultations with important government officials and 71 critical stakeholders.
Speaking after a closed-door meeting on Wednesday, Chairman of the Red Chamber Committee on Finance, Senator Sani Musa, highlighted the fact that the formal hearing follows broad consultations with relevant stakeholders.
As indicated by Senator Musa, who guaranteed that the formal hearing will be exhaustive and transparent, all issues will be tended t, to engender the best result for Nigeria’s financial future.
Discussions next week will zero in on the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill and the Nigerian Revenue Services Bill, while considerations on the Nigerian Tax Administration Bill and the Nigerian Tax Bill will take place on Tuesday.
He revealed that several high-profile officials are supposed to take part, including the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi; Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Zacch Adedeji; Statistician-General and CEO of the National Bureau of Statistics, Prince Adeyemi Adeniran; Minister of Petroleum, Minister of Trade and Investment among other key figures.
