Abba Yusuf, Kano State Governor, has sworn in the 44 newly elected local government chairmen, encouraging them to judiciously manage their resources prudently and quick track grassroots turn of events.
The newly sworn-in chairmen, all from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), won seats in Saturday’s election conducted by the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC).
The Governor stressed the significance of judiciousness in governance to accomplish the ideal targets of giving democracy dividends at the grassroots level.
In the interim, the state electing body has given a certificate of return to the newly elected local government executive and legislature.
The Kano State High Court granted the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) the authority to go ahead with the local government elections, invalidating all endeavors by political parties to put an end to the exercise.
Justice Sanusi Ma’aji who presided over the case, ruled that KANSIEC is empowered by the Constitution to direct, supervise, and oversee local government elections across the 44 local government areas (LGAs) in Kano State.
The body of evidence was brought by KANSIEC against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and 13 other political parties.
It was reported that local vigilante groups and officials of Kano Road Transport Agency, Karota provided security at the polling units.
This was after the Kano State Police Command said it would consent to a court request, limiting it from participating in the election.
