an of humility, kindness and wisdom whose contributions to governance and national development Dr Taiwo Fasoranti, the eldest son of late Afenifere leader Pa Reuben Fasoranti, has revealed that his father repeatedly told the family he had a covenant with God to die at the age of 100.
Taiwo, who is the Secretary to the Ondo State Government, made the disclosure when Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa visited the family to offer condolences at their residence in Akure on Tuesday night.
According to him, the late elder statesman had often told his children not to mourn him when he died at the age of 100, but to celebrate the life he lived.
“Baba often told us that he had a covenant with God that whenever he got to 100, he would go. He repeatedly told us that when he died, we should not cry,” Taiwo said.
He added that the family was celebrating rather than mourning their patriarch, who died at his residence in Ijapo, Akure, on Tuesday evening.
“We are not mourning, Baba; we are rejoicing,” he said.
Taiwo described his father as a firm, hardworking and resilient man whose legacy of love and wisdom would remain a guiding light for the family.
He said the family would miss the late nationalist’s counsel, describing him as a man who communicated his thoughts quietly but effectively.
The Ondo SSG also appealed for prayers to help the family preserve the values and legacy left behind by the elder statesman.
During the visit, Aiyedatiwa described Fasoranti as a mwould not be forgotten.
The governor said the late Afenifere leader remained mentally alert and influential in public affairs even at an advanced age.
He also praised Fasoranti’s contributions to education, noting that his influence had produced prominent individuals in Nigeria and beyond.
Aiyedatiwa urged Nigerians to emulate the deceased’s commitment to service, humility and the development of society.
