The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has accused President Bola Tinubu of failing to address Nigeria’s economic and security challenges, arguing that the president has little to tell Nigerians as the 2027 general election approaches.
Baba-Ahmed made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he criticised the administration’s performance after about three and a half years in office.
He faulted Tinubu’s reported plan to limit his direct participation in campaign activities, questioning why the president would not meet voters to explain his policies and how they had improved their lives.
“Tinubu inherited Nigeria, but what has he done with it? He inherited a poor country; he inherited weak institutions; he inherited poverty and insecurity. We don’t blame him, but he’s been in power for three and a half years. He is a failure,” Baba-Ahmed said.
The PRP chairman argued that the administration’s economic reforms had increased hardship for ordinary Nigerians, insisting that difficult policy decisions did not automatically translate into good governance.
“He made some tough decisions but they were anti-people decisions, a tough decision doesn’t have to be a good decision,” he said.
Baba-Ahmed also raised concerns about insecurity and its impact on education, particularly in communities affected by banditry and kidnapping.
He questioned the effectiveness of government interventions in education, arguing that many children remained unable to attend school because of insecurity.
