The campaign organisation of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential ticket of Seyi Makinde and Lawal Daura has set a target of securing at least 41 million votes in the 2027 presidential election.
The target was disclosed by the party’s vice-presidential candidate, Lawal Daura, during the inauguration of the Makinde-Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation’s National Campaign Management Committee in Abuja.
Daura said the campaign would focus on mobilising voters across the country while relying on the candidates’ programmes and policies rather than electoral shortcuts.
He said the target was based on Nigeria’s voter register, which currently stands at about 103 million registered voters, describing the task of winning such a large number of votes as enormous.
The former Director-General of the Department of State Services also warned against attempts to manipulate the 2027 electoral process, saying the campaign would insist on compliance with the Electoral Act.
“For those who really want to rig, that they can pull a fast one, well, they have a surprise coming,” Daura said.
He described the campaign’s central objective as a “reset” of Nigeria, arguing that fundamental changes were required to address the country’s challenges.
According to him, the campaign committee was deliberately constituted with people considered capable of delivering the party’s objectives.
Also speaking, APM National Chairman, Yusuf Dantalle, urged members of the newly inaugurated committee to work closely with the party’s structures at all levels.
Dantalle said the ultimate objective was to deliver the Makinde-Daura ticket in the 2027 presidential election and form the next Federal Government.
He, however, cautioned that the inauguration of the committee should not be mistaken for victory, stressing that its members must translate their appointments into effective grassroots mobilisation and electoral success.
He acknowledged that disagreements could emerge among members drawn from different political, social and religious backgrounds but said the ability to resolve internal differences would be critical to the campaign’s success.
The Director-General of the campaign committee, Felix Hyat, expressed confidence in the team’s ability to prosecute the campaign and deliver victory for the APM ticket.
Hyat also urged Nigerians, particularly young people, to look beyond religious and ethnic considerations when choosing their leaders in 2027.
