Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has assured the residents of the South-West geo-political zone that their interests will be at the forefront of his policy agenda if he is elected President in 2027, emphasizing that his enduring marital and cultural connections to the region render him part of the family.
Conversely, the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the assertion made by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that President Bola Tinubu will only serve a single term in office.
In a statement issued by his Communication Adviser, Kola Johnson, the former Vice President, who addressed a gathering of selected stakeholders, characterized the people of the South-West as among the most admirable groups in humanity, highlighting that his marriage to a Yoruba woman in the 1970s established a lasting relationship with the South-West.
Atiku, currently a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), dismissed concerns regarding Hausa/Fulani dominance under his leadership as baseless, affirming that the Yoruba constitute his broader extended family and in-laws. He further noted that his connections to the Yoruba extend beyond familial ties, as many of his closest friends and associates hail from the region.
“In case you are unaware or have forgotten, I was married to my first wife, Titi, a Yoruba woman in the 70s, and we have four Yoruba children together. She is now over 75 years old, and we remain together.
“Moreover, the Yoruba are exceptionally sophisticated and highly educated, and to underestimate them would be a grave mistake,” Atiku remarked. “My Ijesha-born Yoruba wife is more than just a spouse to me. To put it aptly, she is my Jewel of Inestimable Value, and anyone familiar with my family, even from afar, can easily attest to this.”
The ADC, in a statement released yesterday by its spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, referred to the ADC’s claim as mere idle chatter from a political entity that has never held power at the national level and is unlikely to do so.
The APC remarked that “it is easy for a party lacking a history of winning national elections to fabricate fictitious narratives regarding the tenure of a leader whose political skill, record of service, and ability to deliver are beyond question.”
As stated, President Tinubu has initiated bold, citizen-focused policies designed to realign Nigeria towards sustainable development and advancement, with Nigerians already observing concrete results.
Utilizing local proverbs, the APC compared the ADC’s stance to that of a party devoid of roots or direction, in stark contrast to the systematic foundational efforts being established by the Tinubu administration for enduring change.
