The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has denied allegations that it is operating in favor of the northern region of the country.
“It is utterly absurd to make such claims, and Dumebi Kachikwu should feel embarrassed for his statements,” Abdullahi, a former minister, remarked during a current affairs program.
“From the very beginning, we have maintained that the ADC is a political party that does not belong to the North or the South. It is not aligned with either Muslims or Christians, nor is it exclusively for the elderly. The ADC is intentionally structured to foster and create the future that Nigeria aspires to achieve,” stated the coalition’s spokesperson.
Last month, Dumebi Kachikwu, a former presidential candidate for the ADC, accused the party of promoting a northern agenda.
Kachikwu claimed that the ADC, which has recently been embraced by the opposition coalition for the upcoming 2027 elections, is part of a scheme to restore power to the northern region of the country.
In response, the ADC spokesperson highlighted several prominent members from the southern region, asserting that this demonstrates the coalition’s national representation.
Abdullahi charged the government with attempting to sow discord within the party, but affirmed that the ADC is cognizant of these efforts and is actively working to counteract them.
The ADC spokesperson was not the only participant on the program. Coalition chieftain Mani Ibrahim informed viewers that Kachikwu does not represent the party and should be disregarded.
“It is important to recognize that Dumebi Kachikwu is not a member of our party (ADC), he does not represent us, and he has no authority to speak on behalf of the ADC,” the former chairman of the ADC Board of Trustees stated.
