Former Ekiti State lead representative Ayodele Fayose says he will uphold the re-appointment of Biodun Oyebanji as the legislative head of the South-West state in 2026.
Fayose expressed this during the Commissioning of Ikeja GRA Network of Roads in the Lagos State capital.
Fayose, a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), resident in the Ikeja GRA, hailed the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in Lagos for elevating the state capital to the same status as the highbrow Ikoyi area. “This place is now our own Ikoyi… You and your deputy have turned GRA to Ikoyi GRA,” Fayose added.
The former Ekiti lead representative likewise said though a member of the PDP, he would uphold Oyebanji of the APC, for re-appointment in 2026.
Fayose said, “I am one Nigerian who won’t express out loud whatever I don’t mean, regardless of whether they will kill me. I am not a member of APC, let me put that on record once more. I am not a member of APC and I will never be a member, however I will not shy away from the fact that what is good, is good.
“When the news of your selection came around a long time back, (there were) such countless reservations, however you have disproved the bookmakers including myself. Every one of the bookmakers, you have proved us wrong that it is not the shade of the pack but what is right inside that thing. You are a different breed of politician.
“You brought everybody together like my governor in Ekiti, Oyebanji, brought everybody together. I always tell people who care to listen, I am a PDP member, but I will support Oyebanji in the next election. It is not about politics, it is who Oyebanji is.”
In June 2022, Oyebanji defeated PDP’s Bisi Kolawole and Olusegun Oni of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to succeed Kayode Fayemi as Ekiti State lead representative. Oyebanji was subsequently sworn in October of that very year.
